Where’s the rest of it? Dads across the nation ask as they watch their daughter step outside in a skimpy-cut bikini – a style which has ultimately taken over the swimwear industry this summer.
Just a few summers ago, those Marilyn Monroe-inspired high-waisted togs were all the rage, but now it appears women are adopting the “less is more look”, exposing plenty of skin not only to other beachgoers but also to the harsh Australian sun.
No matter where you look, this summer you are likely to be confronted by more than a handful of nearly-bare beach bottoms.
And as it turns out, there are many reasons for that.
One being the fact that young Australians have an obsession with copying well known celebrities.
Beach-going teenager Brooke Bouchard said a combination of social media and celebrity influence has a lot to do with what girls wear to the beach each summer.
“They see celebrities such as Kim Kardashian wearing them in social media images, (cheeky-cut bikinis) and they follow that trend,” she said.
“But I do think the Brazilian-cut bikini can be more flattering depending on your body type, so maybe that’s why more women opt for it”.
